The 2012 IGFA Offshore World Championship hosts 46 teams from 21 countries in the beautiful destination of Cabo San Lucas Mexico.
May 11, 2012: The tournament committee got things going Friday night hosting the Crew meeting at Squid Roe bar and restaurant. The captains and mates went over the rules of the tournament, enjoyed some food and drink and got fired up for the tournament and a chance at winning top boat of the World Championship. The bite has been consistent so we look forward to seeing many releases from the very experienced Los Cabos fleet of charter boats.
May 12, 2012: While some teams arrived early to pre-fish most of the teams arrive today to the Finisterra Hotel host resort. A welcome margarita and festive lobby reception awaited the thirsty anglers with some teams traveling two days to reach Los Cabos. Teams settled in, checked out the awards and got to know each other and prepared their gear for battle.
May 13, 2012: Happy mother’s day to all the moms out there and special thanks to the ones allowing dad to fish in the Championship. Today is the registration check-in, team pictures, casting seminar, angler meeting, boat draw and gala kickoff party. Anglers competing in the Championship received welcome gift duffel bag including Aftco Apparel, Momoi leader, Eagle Claw Hooks, Tournament Hats, Baja Brewing Company Beer and many other goodies. The Angler meeting and boat draw determined which boats each team would fish aboard during the tournament. The boat draw was followed by the fiesta dinner party including a live band and beautiful traditional Mexico dancers. Anglers enjoyed a wonderful buffet dinner with many commenting on how it was a dream come true to be in Cabo fishing in the World Championship.
May 14th 2012: The 46 teams from 21 countries head to the docks this morning to board one of the many capable experienced charter boats in Cabo with hopes of getting off to a good start on the first day of four fishing days scheduled in the Championship. There is a very competitive field this year including seasoned winning teams from qualifying events all over the world and past Champions that have already made it to the winners circle. Teams will be mainly targeting striped marlin worth 200-points per release but should they encounter and best a blue, black or sword they will earn 500-points per release. Game Fish also score team points and count for individual prizes.
