IGFA Offshore World Championship

The Championship kicks off today with the angler registration check in. A final count of 59 teams from 25 Countries was welcomed by the tournament Committee lead by the staff of Marlin, Sport Fishing and Salt Water Sportsman magazines. Anglers received welcome angler's duffle bags, tournament shirts from Hook & Tackle & Guy Harvey, Williamson lures, VMC hooks, Tournament hats, Eagle Claw Hooks, Reef Safe Sunscreen and beer from Baja Brewing Company. IGFA's Mike Myatt welcomed the anglers and recognized the teams in attendance that have won their event and those who have qualified and attended for many years.

Anglers also practiced and competed in the traditional casting competition with angler Eduardo Castro from Brazil winning the competition and awarded an Accurate 600 with McGill Wright rod.

Following registration, tournament director Dan Jacobs and Assistant Director Lynda Wilson held the rules briefing and team boat draw. Teams also have a chance to win some great door prizes provided by our many sponsors.

After the boat draw teams were treated to a fantastic kickoff party including live band, Mexican dancers, dinner buffet and traditional tequila toast at the host Finisterra Hotel.

Monday May 9th teams will head to the IGY host marina and board their boats for the 7:00 a.m. shotgun start.
